On the 20th September WCS and the Tumupasa School presented the Spanish version of “Yara’s Amazing Nose”. 17 out of the 24 girls who participated in a creative writing workshop three years ago were present.
The creative experience was centered upon the kaleidoscopic universe created by the Tacana girls and allows the reader to come closer to the world of the tapir and its amazing nose. The illustrations were done by a Cambodian illustrator, Rouen Sokhom, and result in a book where magic, illusion and the real tropical Amazonian jungle come together.
In the ceremony to hand out the books the Education and Sport secretary of the Tacana People’s Indigenous Council, Fatima Serato and the Tumupasa school teacher, Martin Laura, were present. Martin Laura is the promoter of the Madidi Environmental Brigade a group of boys and girls to which the coauthors of the book belong. All the schools in the 20 Tacana communities will receive copies of the book.
Dot-to-Dot Children´s Books and WCS collaborated in this effort to establish local testimonies weaved into a tale and shared with all of us.
