On Monday 19th 2017 the Caiman Management Association distributed the 2017 benefit distribution of the sale of 630 skins and 300Kg of Caiman yacare meat. The Director of the General Biodiversity and Protected Area Authority, Ing. Teresa Pérez Chávez represented the Ministry of the Environment and the CIPTA directorate hosted the event to distribute benefits to 27 hunters and 7 women meat processors. The association continues selling skins to the Kerring group, and through them to GUCCI and other European fashion houses. This year the association made a profit of 39,130 USD and each hunter received 1450 USD. The meat sale to the GUSTU restaurant resulted in a profit of 1623USD and each of the meat processors received 232 USD. This activity replaces illegal hunting by third parties, maintains a stable caiman population through greater indigenous territorial control and is regulated by a management plan.
